A man was killed Monday evening after being pushed onto the subway tracks in an unprovoked attack at the 125th Street station at Lexington Avenue in East Harlem, according to the Police Department. At 6:48 p.m., a man on the uptown platform shoved the person onto the tracks in front of the oncoming No. 4 train, which was unable to stop, a police spokeswoman said. Train service at the station resumed by 9 p.m., but a large number of police officers remained at the scene. “The subway has been insane lately,” Ray Velez, 60, from the Bronx, said as he waited on the 125th St. platform two hours after the attack.

ImageBuzzing AlongDear Diary:I was walking home from the subway station at 125th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, enjoying the latest in a string of warm, breezy, late-spring days. The pathway I was walking on was next to a fenced-in basketball court where some children were shooting hoops while others watched. A girl who looked to be 10 or 11 was sitting at the base of the fence with her back to me as I approached and then passed her. All of a sudden, she started to jerk her head from left to right and back while fanning her ears. As she was making these motions, she looked over her shoulder toward me and discovered where the buzzing sound was coming from.

CoreLogic figures on Tuesday showed prices nationally rose 0.7% in July from June, slowing from a jump of 1.1% in the earlier month. Since finding a floor in February, national prices have risen 4.1%, following a 9.1% decline from their peak in April last year. Home price gains in Sydney slowed to 0.9% for the month compared with June, down from growth of 1.7%, the data showed. CoreLogic research director Tim Lawless said sellers were becoming more active at a time that is normally seasonally subdued, with new listings added in Australia's main cities in July lifting by 3.9% over the previous month. Listings in Sydney jumped 9.9% from a year ago and were 18% higher than the average for the previous five years.

LG Display expects "a rise in demand for panels" as stockpiles of display panels have fallen during the first half of the year, CFO Sung-hyun Kim said. The second-quarter result was in line with a forecast of an 889 billion won loss from 16 analysts polled by Refinitiv SmartEstimate, weighted toward analysts that are more consistently accurate. Factory run-rates for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays used in high-end televisions remained relatively low due to weak sales in Europe, resulting in the poor performance in the second quarter, analysts said. Mobile display panel orders are concentrated in the second half of the year, ahead of the holiday season. However, the initial supply volume is unlikely to significantly impact the company's financials in the third quarter, analysts said.

TOKYO, June 12 (Reuters) - Japanese wholesale prices rose 5.1% in May from a year earlier, slowing for the fifth straight month due to sliding fuel and raw material costs, central bank data showed on Monday. The rise in the corporate goods price index (CGPI), which measures the price companies charge each other for their goods and services, was slower than a median market forecast for a 5.5% gain and followed a revised 5.9% increase in April. The slowdown in wholesale price growth heightens the chance Japan's consumer inflation will moderate towards the central bank's 2% target. New York City’s official Pride theme this year is Strength in Solidarity, an apt reminder that Pride was born as a protest movement against bigotry wherever it manifests. Also that day, Christina Aguilera headlines Pride Island, the big annual dance party, at Brooklyn Army Terminal. New York’s official Pride calendar also features a Juneteenth brunch with Black L.G.B.T.Q. chefs on June 18 and, on June 24, events centered on people of color and a Youth Pride party. The annual Dyke March — “a protest march, not a parade,” according to organizers — is June 24.

New York CNN —President Joe Biden said over the weekend that debt ceiling negotiations were moving along and that talks between the White House and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy would resume on Tuesday. It may become more difficult to access credit, further exacerbating the challenges individuals and companies are already facing because of the banking crisis. Before the Bell: What do the ongoing debt ceiling negotiations mean to small and medium businesses? Do you think bank executives and members of the business community can put pressure on Congress and the White House to come to a deal? The White House has estimated more than 8 million jobs would get wiped out if there is a protracted default.
New York CNN —Pickleball is coming to your local mall, replacing shuttered Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Navy, and Saks Off 5th stores. Malls need new tenants to fill vacant spaces and draw customers beyond their traditional department store anchors and clothing stores. Backers of the game and developers are desperate to find vacant spaces to build courts. The Meadows at Lake Saint Louis, an outdoor mall, plans to fill the space once occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond with a pickleball club. A pickleball facility recently opened in a former Burlington store space at Shore Mall in New Jersey, and a pickleball club took over an Old Navy space at a New Hampshire mall.

The ban has created a shortage of drugs necessary to execute death row inmates by lethal injection, the AP reported. Amid the shortage, Idaho became the 5th state to reinstate death by firing squad. The Associated Press reported that Mississippi, Utah, Oklahoma, and South Carolina also allow for the use of the firing squad.
